Dr. Alok Srivastava joined the Indian Administrative Service in Madhya Pradesh Cadre in 1984. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1984. He was awarded a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Maryland, College Park (USA) in 1997. He also has acquired Ph.D. in Economics from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and PG Diploma in Public Administration from Punjab University.
Dr. Srivastava worked as Union Law Secretary and Secretary, Department of Justice before joining of NCLAT. He has extensive experience of working in Infrastructure Sector which includes Shipping, Renewable Energy, Water Supply, Housing and Urban Development. He was closely involved with the development of wind and biomass energy policy in India and played an important role in policy formulation relating to blending of bio-ethanol in petrol/diesel. As Official Director on the Board of Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency, a non-banking financial institution, he worked towards increasing the equity base of the company which could play an effective role in financial of renewal energy project. Development of “Green Energy Corridors” for transmission of Renewal Energy has been another of his achievements. His work in the development of Chabahar Port in Iran and towards formulation of “Sagarmala” project has been widely appreciated. He is credited with the establishment of Madhya Pradesh Jal Nigam, which has become an important instrument for implementation of PPP schemes for providing drinking water supply in Madhya Pradesh. Schemes of Access to Justice such as Tele-Law and Nyaya Bandhu (for Pro Bono Lawyers) have been strengthened and expanded under his charge and have received acclaim in India and abroad.
